Early Years Music Lessons in London
Every child is born musical. Long before they speak, they respond to rhythm, melody and movement.
At Prelude Education, we nurture that instinct through specialist early years music and movement lessons for children aged 2–5.
Each session is joyful and imaginative, led by teachers who understand how young children learn best — through play, discovery and gentle encouragement.

Why Early Years Music Matters
The early years are full of discovery, and music plays a powerful role in that process. When children explore rhythm and melody, they’re developing far more than musical ability — they’re building coordination, focus, memory and social confidence.
Our lessons are designed to help your child:
Develop coordination and balance through movement
Strengthen listening and attention skills
Build confidence and curiosity
Lay solid foundations for future music learning
Every class combines laughter, movement and sound. It’s serious learning, but it feels like play.
Why Specialist Teachers Matter
Teaching music to very young children is not something “any musician” can do. It requires deep understanding of early childhood development and how to make music accessible and joyful for small hands and short attention spans.
Our early years tutors are:
Qualified musicians with an average of 7 years experience in early childhood music education
Adaptable to every child’s mood, personality and pace of learning
Skilled at making lessons feel playful while maintaining gentle structure
Knowledgeable about child development, from attention span and fine motor skills to confidence and emotional expression
Trusted by families for their warmth, professionalism and ability to inspire
They know when to calm, when to energise, and how to help each child feel proud of what they can do — not pressured by what they can’t yet.
It’s that blend of musical excellence, understanding and care that makes all the difference in a child’s early experiences of music.
Rhythm and Movement Classes
Our Rhythm and Movement classes are playful, active sessions where children explore sound, rhythm and coordination. Using songs, percussion instruments and musical games, children develop a natural sense of timing, movement and expression.
Each class helps to develop a child’s natural sense of pulse, timing and musical expression. These are the same foundations that make future instrumental learning — piano, violin, or singing — so much easier and more enjoyable later on.
Our sessions are ideal for toddlers and preschoolers who love to move, listen and explore. Parents are warmly encouraged to join in too; shared music-making strengthens not only musical understanding but also the bond between parent and child.
In these classes, children aren’t just having fun — they’re quietly building the confidence, coordination and focus that underpin a lifetime of musical learning.
Early Years Music Lessons
For children aged roughly 1–5, we offer one-to-one music lessons that introduce early musicianship and foundational musical understanding.
Each lesson blends rhythm, singing, and gentle exploration of instruments such as piano or drums. Lessons are designed to:
Encourage curiosity and enjoyment
Develop rhythm, coordination and listening skills
Build readiness for future instrumental study
We go at each child’s pace — never rushing, always encouraging.

Still Have Questions?
Here are the answers parents ask most before starting with us.
-
It really depends on the child, their age, and how they learn best. Some little ones feel more confident with a parent close by, while others focus better with gentle independence.
Our teachers are highly adaptable — they’ll always take time to understand what helps your child feel secure and engaged. In many cases, parents are welcome to join in at first and gradually step back as their child becomes more comfortable.
The aim is simple: to create an environment where your child can learn, explore and enjoy music at their own pace.

Yes — but nothing complicated to begin with. For our youngest learners, simple instruments such as wooden blocks, shakers, tin whistles or a small keyboard are perfect. These allow children to explore sound, rhythm and pitch in an age-appropriate way.
We are able to recommend what to buy or rent, depending on your child’s age and interests. We’ll make sure you have everything you need for lessons at home.

That’s absolutely fine. Movement is part of how children learn. Our sessions are designed to embrace that energy.
